Time Out!

So, we have had to use some inventive discipline recently. On this particular occasion Micah decided to run through the shrubbery and after getting one chance to listen to us about getting out of the plants it was time for a timeout. Near a lightpole. Awesomeness!

Michael Jordan's number

I am finally the big two three. Wahoo. I wrote myself a song:
Happy Birthday to Me.
I live in a Zoo.
My kid loves his monkey.
And he smells like one too.
Hooray!
Have a great day! We are off to swim lessons and FroYo. mmmmm. :)

Dinner Date!

Emily and I are having a girls night tonight and meeting for dinner at Panera! Yummy french onion soup on this stormy day sounds great! Em is taking a break from her sweet 1 month old and Micah and Brian get to have some quality bonding time. :)

Best line of the night, "I'm not giving birth to that many people!" -Emily

Feels Like... Part 2

It's hot. really REALLY hot. As in, it's 10 pm and feels like 94* out with 70% humidity. Today it was 96* but felt like 112*, that's right. Not 102, but 112*!
Tomorrow it's supposed to be 105*.
What do you think 105* is going to "feel like?"

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner

Brian and I made such a yummy dinner tonight! We used a Huttlinger family favorite: Planet Hollywood's Cap'n Crunch Chicken as inspiration and brian came up with baked nuggets. They were SO good and Micah even ate quite a few which is awesome because he has been picky lately.
I also made ranch dressing with a recipe from Annie's Eats. Yum yum!

Costumes! Part 2

This is "Sea Cruise" and holy hell this was the hardest thing I've ever done! I made the skirts from scratch and found out that stretch sequin is so not my BFF. Brian and I stayed up all night the night before the competition to get them finished. Seriously. He was sewing ruffles on my serger while I was putting together the skirts. It was insanity, but worth it in the end. I think they came out really well! Had all of the fabric come in sooner I would have like to have the Sequins go all the way around the skirts and tops, but time didn't allow it. I also wanted to add ruffles on the booties of their bloomers, but that didn't work out either. Oh, well. Live and Learn... Order supplies early!

Swim Lessons!

Micah has started swim lessons and is doing great! He is not a fan of being on his back in the water so we are working on it, but he will kick his legs and reach for toys and enjoys being in the pool! Future water polo player? We'll see...

Prince Charming.

My kid is such a charmer... NOT! (Note the finger up his nose!)
I have been teaching Princess Camp for a few weeks and it has been a lot of fun! Micah hangs out with his buddy Cooper, and baby Marin comes along too sometimes. There is a show at the end of the week for all of our Princesses and we have some of the High Schoolers dress up like Princesses and dance with the girls. Our little princess dancers EAT IT UP and pose with the Princesses, dance with the Princesses and blow kisses with the princesses. It is precious! During this particular show all of the babysitters were recruited to be Princesses so Micah and Cooper were attending the show... you can guess how well that went. Ha! He wanted to me to hold him but I couldn't and so one of the babysitters tried to distract him with some stickers and paper. He decided to decorate himself and Cooper with stickers instead of the paper. I love these sweet Princesses for all of the help they give me in class as assistants as well as babysitting!

Hoarder

I am slightly concerned that Micah is becoming a bit of a hoarder. This is what it takes to get him out the door:
his monkey
his puppy
his curious george (aka "dudge")
his blue blanket (aka "boo bankie")

and sometimes a sippie. good grief Linus!

Feels Like...

I consider myself to be a fairly proficient weather checker. I have been googling and weather.com-ing for many years and there was one thing I never understood: the "feels like" temperature that was listed on the page. Growing up in California, the feels like and real temperature was always the same! I never understood how 75* could feel like something other than 75*! How naive I was. The south has brought an entirely new understanding of the "feels like" temp outside. Yes, it may only be 90* out but it feels like 104* with the insane amounts of humidity!!

My dance studio is awesome and hired me to make some costumes for them this year. Here is one set of them in action. This dance is called "Little Bird."

Preschool for the Arts

I got to teach my very first preschool class this year while Meredith was on Maternity leave and I loved it! It was SO much fun and quite a bit of work, but I loved it. :) These were my sweet kiddos for a few weeks. :) I was fully unaware that my picture was going to be taken that day and I was at teacher rehearsal late the night before... Oh well. Still a fun memory that was captured on film photo? I love it anyway. :)

Gosh I love this kid.

Sick boy is still sick. :( he had diarhea from a stomach virus 3 weeks ago, 2 teeth coming in, a fever virus, cough, and a hoarse voice. And this has been going on for a week! Poor guy. Anyway, tonight after his bath it was his bedtime and as i was carrying him down the hall to his room h points to my bed and says, "cozy mama?" He wanted to snuggle in my bed with me. I melted and Brian and I snuggled with our bubba for a few minutes before we put him to bed.
This is probably one of my favorite moments we've had as a family. Snuggling, cozy in jammies, under a blanket. Bliss.

Testing... 1 2 3

I got a new iphone ap so that i can ad pictures to my blog. Hooray!

Best Laid Plans

If you had asked me last Friday what this week was going to look like I would have responded with excitement and told you the following:
We are going to start swim lesson on Monday, go to the Zoo and Ikea on Tuesday, Build a chair and table set on wednesday, clean my house and get a haircut on thursday, and hang out with friends on Friday. I was also going to go to the gym and take some dance classes at the studio.

Here is what this week actually looked like:
snuggle with sick Micah on Monday, take him to the doctor on tuesday, watch toy story repeatedly on wednesday, buy wrong screws for chair, get more screws and they turn out to be too big and crack the wood, take micah back to the doctor on thursday, try new frozen yogurt place, and speech therapy friday.

Definitely different! Oh well. such is life. :)

Gluten Free.

This whole Gluten Free/Wheat Allergy really sucks. I have become obsessed with food. I dream about it, think about it and obsess over it. I am going crazy! I just want some bread! A baguette with brie, some garlic bread, parmesan crisps from Trader Joe's, an everything bagel, strawberry pie...
AAAH! I really don't know what to do with myself. Baking my own gluten free stuff is hard, expensive, time consuming and a crapshoot as to whether or not it will be edible.
I just would like to eat bread that doesn't taste like squashy corn mush.

Whilst watching Miami Ink...

Whilst watching Miami Ink I came up with a list of things that I love, but I would never get a tattoo of:
1. A cupcake.
2. Aquafina water.
3. Owls.
4. S'mores
5. Princesses.
6. Puppies.
7. Sewing Machines.
