Grayson is doing well and cruising right along. She gained 3oz last night and is up to 3lb 12.6oz! She has been able to maintain her body temp well enough that the top of her isolette has been lifted up and she is hanging out with room air. She also gets to start using a bottle today or tomorrow!
The doctors were hesitant to start her on a bottle because she hasn't really established a breastfeeding routine yet. The "lactivists" at the hospital are pretty hardcore. It is very pro-breastfeeding which is great, but sometimes it's a little over the top. For instance, I had only pumped once in the 24 hours after Grayson's birth because the magnesium sulfate drip knocked me out. The lactation consultant flipped out on me and basically said I wouldn't produce any milk because I had waited so long... I couldn't sit up or open my eyes, I definitely couldn't pump!
I am encouraged to come and nurse her as much as I can. Technically, I'm not supposed to drive until Monday, and Micah not being allowed in makes it even more difficult, coupled with the fact that I am exhausted, is making it a little more difficult to go and visit more than once a day.
If giving her a bottle makes it more difficult for her to nurse, then so be it. I just want my baby home. There is nothing fun about being a NICU mom.

Sleepover!
My mom is here! Micah and Noni had a "sleep"over downstairs last night and micah was so excited about it! Poor Noni probably did not get much sleep though, Micah didn't fall asleep until 11pm! I fell asleep before he did!

32 weeks 1 day
Well, things took a turn for the worse and my OB decided that it was go time on Friday night. After he thought about the whole situation he said that the risk of me having a seizure was too great to just buy us a few more pregnant days; because it was just a matter of days at that point.
After my appointment on Friday I was sent over to the hospital for monitoring. After being monitored, dr. Brannon decides that it is go time and we are having a baby tonight. They prep the OR and apparently had to push back a lady that had been waiting since 1:30pm. It was about 5pm when dr. Brannon said, "go!" I walked into surgery and started to get really nervous. They gave me a spinal and then set me up on the table. They put a curtain up and brian came in and about 5 minutes later dr. Brannon is yelling for Brian to look around the curtain. She's pulled out and immediately cries, which makes me cry, and they poke her around the curtain for me to see too. Brian gets to cut her cord and watch as they clean her up and while I'm having my guts put back together, the nurse brings her over to me and I get to kiss her before she goes off to the nursery.
I head back to my recovery room and they begin a magnesium sulfide drip in my IV which makes me feel like i was run over by an 18 wheeler. I somehow managed to get up and out of bed so that i could go hold Grayson, but got to the NiCU, lasted about 2 minutes and then my blood pressure dropped
Really low and I almost passed out and they rushed me back to my room. I was miserable all day on Saturday. I couldn't even open my eyes or sit up. It was awful!
Saturday at about 5 pm they unhook me from the magnesium and move me to a recovery room. AKA a torture chamber. After the c-section they had me on a catheter because of the magnesium. After the catheter is removed they give you 8 hours to pee. In the torture chamber they made me get up and walk to the bathroom (OW!) and try to pee. And repeat about 5 times. The moving around was both good for me and awful! It hurt SO badly, but each time I got up to walk, the easier it was to do again the next time. My sweet nurses tried every trick in the book to try to help me to pee. At one point I had my feet in a bucket of warm water, my hand under running water, while I was blowing bubbles and still nothing came out! I tried a warm shower and nada! So they had to catheterize me again and the clock re-set. When they did that catheters though my bladder was so full she had to cal another nurse in to empty the bucket so it didn't spill! Haha! I really did need to pee, I just couldn't get it out! Around 2 am I was able to get up (on my own!) and pee! Woohoo!
Grayson is doing really well! She was put on a c-Papp to help ease her breathing a little bit, but it has already been removed. Currently she just has an IV in her foot, and a feeding tube through her nose. She is SO cute, and has hair!! The nicu here has its' highs and lows. Micah isn't allowed in, but anyone else is allowed to visit as long as they are with us. So, Emily and some of my dance friends have been able to meet her, but Micah hasn't. :(
All things considered Micah is doing really well with all of the craziness, and boy do I have great friends! He got to hang with Cooper buddy and co on Friday night, and Haley and the scary cats on Saturday-Monday, and then Emily is picking him up from school on Monday. I think. Whatever it is, they have it all worked out. I am so humbled by the help everyone has offered and made happen for us. We couldn't have done this without APA or our friends!

duke perinatology update.
i was in the duke waiting room for an hour. this place is clearly not known for timeliness! haha. the averge age of the pregnant patient is approximately 45. the last person that checked out was talking about her high school senior going off to college and the newborn she'll have at home!
the average age was brought down by myself and one of my favorite preschool moms that i ran into in the waiting room. love that!
i went in to the appointment expecting to pee in a cup and talk about my headache. instead, i had a 40 minute level 2 ultrasound! i got to see baby g's hair! i can't beleive she has hair!
while i was marveling at the hair the tech priceeded to measure and measure and measure. baby g should be about 32 weeks gestational age. she measures in betweeen 30 weeks and 31 weeks 5 days. this put her in the 4th percentile. she is guesstimated to be about 3 lbs 8 oz which is already bigger than micah.
the perinatologist thinks it is because of my hypertension. i am not completely convinced that's the entire answer because my blood pressure has been fine until recently. i go back to my ob today and hopefully he'll be able to break this all down for me. with how seriously the perinatologist was acting i'm thinking she's coming sooner rather than later, but i don't know.

My new favorite thing!
While in the hospital on monday i got a handy-dandy new cup! I'm a big fan of cups that can hold the giant amounts of water that i drink, and the hospital has pellet ice! Unfortunately, they do not serve trader joe's electrolyte water, so i actually got a little dehydrated and it showed on my bloodwork. Tap water hurts my stomach in large quantities. I have a sensitive gut!
I need to pack a hospital bag for realsies, and in it i will include water and snacks. Brian and i were starving and needed some snacks!

Post dr appointment update!
I had more bloodwork run today and it looks fine/no worse than it has been. I'm being sent to a perinatologist tomorrow to check me out, and back to my dr on Friday. My headache still won't go away, but that's not reason enough to deliver. Woohoo!!
round 1!
So, here's the short version:
I got put on modified bedrest on friday due to blood pressure issues and my kidneys spilling protein. I developed a bad headache with floaters on saturday and went to my ob monday. After hearing of the headache my ob sent me to the hospital to be watched overnight. The headache still won't go away, but i got released on strict bedrest and go back to my ob today, and to duke for a second opinion tomorrow.
Long version:
All of the above also, the headache that i had was being watched to make sure it didn't make me have a seizure. I got two steroid shots for Graysons lung development in case she does need to be taken early. The tylenol, norco, and percocet that we tried didn't touch the headache. My labs look pretty good, but there have been one or two things that have been on the highest end of normal each time they've run them.
I'm in good spirits. I miss dance and work, and i have a headache, but i have officially cooked Grayson 2 days longer than micah! Holla!

So it begins...
Well, the b word was sentenced upon me at my appointment today. at 31 weeks and 1 day pregnant. I thought I may have been in the clear, but this week my blood pressure started to spike, my kidneys are spilling protein, and my labs for my liver aren't as great as they once were. :( boo. yes, it's a bummer, but i also kind of feel like crap so I am glad I'm being ordered to rest up! I did negotiate the sentence down from complete bedrest to modified bedrest so that I could still work a little bit. I won't be teaching dance for the moment, but I can still teach preschool. Fortunately, my preschool class is SO AWESOME this year that this arrangement is possible. They can all wipe their own heineys and put on their own shoes! HOLLA!
